The ruins of Whitby Abbey have some fascinating ghosts, one of them is the ghost of a nun who was bricked up alive  within the abbey’s walls for breaking her vow of chastity (It’s reported that you can still hear her pleading for herself). The entrance fee is £11, per adult.

According to legend, Gretham secretly practiced the Black Arts, and lived a debauched and immoral life and with discovery of his practices, he was extensively punished by being walled up alive in a dungeon and left to starve. The abbot’s remains were discovered in 1722, seated at a table with a book and candlestick before him. You have to give this one a definite visit!
