If You Spend A Lot Of Time In Front Of The Screen, This Eye Care Guide Is A Must-Follow

With the onset of Covid-19, the usage of digital devices has risen by massive figures. From students attending online classes to parents struggling with work from home schedules, a lot has changed. Keeping aside mental health, our eyes are the worst foes of this pandemic. To keep them healthy isn’t as tough as it seems. So, here is a short eye care guide if you or your loved ones spend a lot of time in front of the screen.

Frequent breaks

Continuous gazing at the screen can lead to eye strain, making your eyes dry. Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Meaning: Take a 20-second screen break after every 20 minutes of screen exposure to look at objects that are 20 feet away. So, with this rule, give your eyes some rest which will help retain the moisture and prevent dryness.

Avoid reflection

Keep the monitor away from windows i.e. you should never face a window when using a computer or a laptop. Consider using anti-reflection lenses that have a preventive blue coating- if you wear spectacles or even otherwise. Because devices emit harmful blue light which damages the eyes and causes premature ageing on prolonged exposure.

Eat healthy

To mitigate the impact of digital eye strain- especially dryness and tiredness, keep your eyes fit by consuming foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Further, stay well-hydrated and get sufficient sleep each night. Leafy vegetables, carrots, dates, etc are a great source of vitamin A.

Check your device

Frequently regulate the settings of your monitor to reduce the glare as much as possible. Align your monitor to your eye level and work in ergonomic settings, this will reduce the stress caused to your while focussing.

Screen etiquette

Practicing basic screen distancing while using your phone / laptop / computers helps with reducing the effect of harmful rays. Don’t hold the device too close to your eyes and increase the font size. Also, adjust the brightness to a level that is comfortable. Wpe your screen once every day because a clean screen boosts visibility.
