<p class="has-text-align-justify">In its initiative to reduce plastic pollution and be kinder to our marine buddies, a Philadelphia-based bottler has gone natural in the creation of 6-pack rings. Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages is replacing plastic rings with paper packaging, and we can expect to see the new Coke packaging whenever we visit supermarkets in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut. The plant bottles Coca-Cola products like Diet Coke, Powerade, Sprite and more. Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages is the first to bring this nature-friendly solution into the USA. </p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">The paper rings are called KeelClips, and were invented by Graphic Packaging International. KeelClip uses a smaller board than other similar options, and can be recycled post-use. It is perfectly hygienic, and protects the top of the cans by ensuring no contamination. Consumers can transport the cans by gripping on to the packaging&#8217;s finger hole. </p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">One garbage truck of plastic is discarded in the ocean every single minute, and millions of tons of plastic pieces enter the waters every year. Presently, there is around 100 million tons of plastic in the waters, and a million marine animals due to these discarded items each year. Liberty has estimated that this innovative, eco-friendly packaging will reduce the yearly plastic waste in the oceans by 75,000 pounds, giving more breathing room to marine life. </p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">This comes as a part of Cola-Cola&#8217;s larger initiative to be kinder to nature. A considerable amount of the company&#8217;s packaging is biodegradable, 90% of it is recyclable, and it is striving towards collecting the equivalent of every bottle it sells by the end of this decade. In South Africa, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) and Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages (CCPB) had conducted clean-ups this September as a part of World Clean Up Day. </p>
