Named after what it really does, the mysterious Blood Falls in Antarctica seems like a waterfall which instead of water, gushes blood, or that is what the naked eye sees. Located in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valleys, these falls originate and flow from the Taylor Glacier. ; First discovered by Australian explorer Griffith Talyor during his expedition in 1911.

The water glides down from the Glacier, the liquid bubbles from fissures in the glacier’s surface. The lake underneath the glacier is saline but not like a normal saline lake, it’s unusual and because of such saltiness, the lake has a lower freezing point. When the lake freezes it releases it heats which melts the ice, creating a river flow.

The water is filled with a lot of iron, with the flowing water from the coldest glacier on earth, it gives away a scene of blood flowing from the river. Despite being so cold and inhospitable, this is unbelievably home to bacteria, which one can see through a microscope, as that Griffith Taylor and other explorers guessed that there may be a living organism like algae living in the water, and was the cause of the color.
