<p>With the kind of headlines doing the rounds, the state of affairs seems unbelievable. Divided elections, wildfires and of course, sick ‘ol Corona. Thank goodness for Netflix and our numbing binge watching streaks. But while Netflix has been a part of our dinner time (and dare I say breakfast time) conversations since eternity, a particular 2019 release has been leading quite the buzz off late. Here’s what we know about why the year old award winning drama, Unbelievable, has been catching up with hype. Again. ;</p>

<p>One glance at the synopsis, and you’d probably understand why the miniseries on Netflix made it to the trends later last week. Timely. Gritty. Realistic. And quite simply, Unbelievably unforgettable. Based on Pulitzer Prize winning news 2015 news piece, the series is a recreation of the Washington and Colorado serial rape cases between 2008 and 2011. The protagonist in this show is Marie. A teenager who claims to have been sexually assaulted ; but falls short of convincing those around her of having suffered the crime. What unfolds is the pursuit of two detectives who trace a rather sketchy and testing path to uncover the real truth. ;</p>

<p>The show was widely acclaimed for shifting the focus from the perpetrators and the crime at large, to the survivor and the ordeals he or she have to suffer theron. On one hand, you had the teenager who’s been accused of building up a false case. On the other, you have two women detectives who, though investigating the case, are on a path of their own. Leading to self discovery, or leading to an example that might just become a framework for<a href="https://variety.com/2020/tv/features/emmys-2020-writing-nominees-unbelievable-unorthodox-great-what-we-do-in-shadows-1234740609/"> future cases </a>of such kind to abide by. ;</p>

<p>Apart from being one of the most watched shows back in 2019, Unbelievable also furthered Netflix’s own trend of churning out nai;-biting and tightly created miniseries. With just one season and eight episodes, the series made quite the show at the awards. What with the show headlined most nominations in a number of awards, including the British Academy Television Awards, the Critics Choice Television Awards and the Golden Globe awards. While many are hopeful for a <a href="https://thedigitalwise.com/2020/09/09/unbelievable-season-2-what-netflix-has-planned-for-the-sequel-season/">season 2</a>, all we can do is wait.</p>
