<p>It’s been going on for two years, but the pandemic is what’s really helped the weekly Singles’ Night at this supermarket take off. ;</p>



<p>During the Covid-19 pandemic, when it has become increasingly difficult to meet new people at bars, clubs, etc., Germans have resorted to visiting this mart in the hope of finding someone special. ;</p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">Does cupid strike among the shelves of bread and butter?</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">People in masks, strolling their carts; there are hearts stuck or pinned – some conspicuous, others not so much.</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">“Would you like to meet me for some orange juice at the fruit department?”</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">Store manager Steven Schellhorn is happy to admit that his boss came up with the idea. “He had seen a similar thing at the disco”, he smiles. Behind the counter, Daniel Cronau is seen putting a heart on his sleeve, laughing, saying “You don’t hope for too much, but it’s still funny.”</p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">Two lovely women pick up their hearts from the entrance. But, what’s with the hearts? You can pick yellow, or you can choose red. The yellow ones are pinned while the red ones are stuck. ;</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">Annie has been windowed for some years, Juliette single for two decades.</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">“Who gave you this idea?”</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">“My daughter”, Annie says, “This is much safer than online dating.” The women are on the lookout for some “young vegetables”.</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">Annie, Juliette, Mona, Tina, Niklas–and forty-five more people grace our supermarket with their presence and hope. They’re all numbers, but who is number 19? No one answers, a secret message has been left behind. A social media campaign to figure out the identity of number 19 follows. ;</p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">Niklas has been looking at Mona for some time now. He gathers the courage to walk upto her, and with a little hesitation he hands her a piece of paper with the “game rules”. Instead of asking to meet her at the counter, or an aisle, or a shelf, he has scribbled his cellphone number. ;</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">Niklas doesn’t really believe in finding love on apps, he would rather find it at the club.</p>



<p class="has-text-align-justify">He roams around the entrance. Maybe, just maybe, he’s waiting for Mona</p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">Just another Singles’ Night at a supermarket in Volkach, Germany. Store manager Schellhorn says he’s been seeing more hearts these past months. Hopeful singles can come around the assigned day of the week, 6-8pm, shop for groceries and look for love. ;</p>
