From the nominations, to the amazingly beautiful red carpet moments, the spectacular award gala&#8217;s, brunch, after party, interviews and winnings; we can&#8217;t help but love award shows and the biggest ones bring home the most fun and anticipation. Now, it is 2017, a new year and there are a number of promising awards in view already with nominations and predictions such as the Grammy Awards and Academy Awards. Here is a look at 10 of the world’s biggest awards in Film (including film festivals) and Music detailing who has won the most number of times, highlights of who won last year and wonder what’s in keep for this year’s film and music industry.</p>
<h6>Academy Awards</h6>

<p>Also known as Oscars, is Hollywood’s prestigious award since it was inaugurated in 1929. The Golden-man figure statuette award recognizes achievements in film industry; it sets the tone for first-timers and lauds the exceptional performance and finesses of famous actors in the industry. The actor with the most Oscars is Hollywood pioneer Katharine Hepburn with four separate Best Actress wins in her sixty year film career. She won the award for “Morning Glory”, “On Golden Pond” and consecutively for “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (1967) and “The Lion in winter” (1968), with an impressive eight more nominations for films like “The African Queen” and “The Philadelphia Story”. Following the record is Meryl Streep with eighteen Oscar nominations, two best actress wins and one Best Supporting Actress for “Kramer vs. Kramer”; Jack Nicholson with two Best Actor wins for leading roles in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “As Good As It Gets”. Daniel Day-Lewis has three Best Actor wins for “My Left Foot” (1989), “There Will Be Blood” (2007) and “Lincoln” (2012).</p>
<p>At the 88<sup>th</sup> Academy Awards in 2016, Leonardo DiCaprio won his first ever Oscar (despite always delivering an impeccable and captivating performance to every movie) as the Best Actor in “The Revenant”. It was an historic and enjoyable moment because we (lovers of Titanic, Wolf of Wall Street and the rest) all knew it was a long time coming and a much deserved award. The movie “The Revenant” earned the most nominations with twelve nominations and won three awards including Best Director to Alejandro G. Inarritu and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio’s role. “Mad Max: Fury Road” won six awards which was the most for the evening, a clean sweep at the awards; “Spotlight” won two awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture. While Brie Larson won Best Actress for “Room”, Alicia Vikander won supporting acting honors for “Danish Girl”. The Award ceremony had a rating of 34.42 million viewers in the US, earning it the least watched Oscar since the 80<sup>th</sup> Academy Awards which could be linked to the controversy and criticisms regarding lack of diversity in nominations for the Award, leading to boycotting of the Award ceremony by notable actors and celebrities and encouraging people not to watch the telecast. Regardless of the criticism, the Academy Awards remains dear in our hearts as the most notable and biggest award.</p>

<p>The Gold plated gramophone award is the biggest and most prestigious award in music to recognize impeccable and outstanding achievement in the music industry. It has 83 categories to celebrate the best of R&;B, pop, rock, country, classical, jazz, among others. The prestige of a Grammy award can elevate an artist’s career which makes it a must-have, and there are some who have garnered more than one and up to 30 Grammy wins. Georg Solti, a music conductor holds the record for the most Grammy awards won in any genre with 31 wins; he has the most wins in the Classical field. Solti’s last win was for Best Opera Recording for Wagner: <em>Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg</em> (1997). Quincy Jones, a notable artist and producer has 27 wins and one of the only 15 artists to receive a Grammy legend Award, tied with him is Alison Krauss with 27 wins and holds the record as the female artist with the most Grammys. Pierre Boulez has 26 wins and also received The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. Stevie Wonder is the only artist in Grammy history to win five or more awards on three separate nights, he has 25 Grammy wins. U2 holds the record for most Grammy wins by a rock act. Jay Z and Kanye West are tied for the most Grammy wins by a rap artist, both earning 21 awards.</p>
<p>At the 58<sup>th</sup> annual Grammy Awards in 2016, Taylor Swift picked up 3 trophies, including Album of the Year, for her “1989” album. With the win, T-Swift became the first female artist ever to win Album of the year twice following her 2010 win for &#8220;Fearless&#8221; and her award speech had a subtle reference to Kanye West’s claim that he made the singer famous. Kendrick Lamar who led with 11 nominations took home 5 awards receiving Best Rap Album for “To Pimp a Butterfly”, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Alright”; both Swift and Lamar were victors in the Best Music Video category for “Bad Blood” remix which won a Grammy. Meghan Trainor won Best New Artist, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars “Uptown Funk” nabbed the Record of the Year and Best Pop Group/Duo Performance. Ed Sheeran had a big night as he didn’t walk away empty-handed as “Thinking Out Loud” got Song of the Year and also Best Pop Solo Performance category and not forgetting, Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” won in the Best Country Song category.</p>

Meryl Streep holds the record for the most competitive wins with 8 Golden Globe Awards and 28 nominations in total, followed by Jack Nicholson with 17 nominations and 6 wins. At the 73<sup>rd</sup> Golden Globe Awards in 2016, the biggest winners were Leonardo DiCaprio with Best Actor for “Revenant”, the movie which had the night and took home 3 awards. Kate Winslet won Best Supporting Actress for “Steve Jobs”, Matt Damon earned his second Golden Globe for &#8220;The Martian&#8221; and Brie Larson had her first for “Room”.</p>

The television series with the most number of Emmy&#8217;s is Game Of Thrones with 38 wins and 106 nominations. After winning 3 awards at the 68th Emmy Awards in 2016 and 9 awards at the Creative Arts Emmy- behind the scenes, it holds the record for the highest number of Emmy won by a scripted television series. Although GOT lost awards in the acting categories, it also won the Outstanding Drama Series for the second year in a row.</p>

At the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the festival amidst predictions topped with the Palme d&#8217;Or awarded to British director Ken Loach for “I, Daniel Blake&#8221;. The Grand Prix went to Xavier Dolan “It’s Only the End of the World”, Best Actress to Jaclyn Jose for her admirable role in “Ma Rose”, Shahab Hosseini grabbing the Best Actor award for “The Salesman”.</p>

Some past winners of the accolades have ended up being nominated and big winners at Academy Awards such as &#8220;12 years a Slave&#8221;, &#8220;Room&#8221;, &#8220;Slum Dog Millionaire&#8221; to mention a few, which gives the film festival a certain hype and credibility. In 2016, Toronto International Film Festival handed out a People&#8217;s Choice Award which is the most prized award of the festival to Damien Chazelle&#8217;s &#8220;La La Land&#8221; (a rare gem that is captivating and spellbinding with a cinematic experience) against a crowdpleaser &#8220;Queen of Katwe&#8221; and &#8220;Lion&#8221;. It is most certain that with this win, La La Land is going to win an Oscar in 2017 as it is an Oscar contender.</p>
<h6>BAFTA Awards</h6>

At the 69th BAFTA in 2016, Alejandro Inarritu&#8217;s &#8220;Revenant&#8221; stole the show with five awards including Best Director, Best Film and Best Actor with Leonardo DiCaprio taking home his first BAFTA for the role. So also the movie &#8220;Mad Max: Fury Road” nabbed four wins in the technical field. Brie Larson who was having a good year with an Oscar win got a BAFTA for Best Actress in &#8220;Room&#8221; while Kate Winslet had her third BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in &#8220;Steve Jobs&#8221;.</p>

We sure can&#8217;t forget Kanye West&#8217;s 2009 call shot on Taylor&#8217;s award or Miley Cyrus&#8217;s twerking moments and outfits on stage. The award&#8217;s accolade is in a Moon man figure, hence earning it the &#8220;Moonman&#8221; name. The most won Moonman was received by Beyonce at the 2016 MTV VMA&#8217;s beating Madonna&#8217;s record of most Moonman with an award for her hit &#8220;Hold Up&#8221; as the Best Female Video. She broke the all time record with a 21st win as against Madonna&#8217;s 20 moonmen win. With 11 nominations, Queen Bee also won Video of the year for &#8220;Formation&#8221;. Pretty sure she ain&#8217;t just called &#8220;Queen Bee&#8221; for no reason. Other winners at the award night were Rihanna, DNCE, Britney Spears, and Fifth Harmony to list a few.</p>

Robbie Williams lives up to the record of most won BRIT award with Adele and Coldplay steadily catching up. At the 2016 Brit awards at O2 Arena, Adele trumped the night with 4 award wins for her nominations in Best British Female, British Single for her smash &#8220;Hello&#8221;, Master Card Album of the Year for &#8220;25&#8221; which is the most prestigious award of the show; and the night rocked for her with the fourth award of Global Success which got Adele a bleep in her acceptance speech and also emotional moment. Coldplay also won at the award night for Best group.</p>

The most Billboard award wins belongs to Taylor Swift, the country/Pop singer has garnered an amount of 21 wins to her credit. She started amassing the awards from her first win in 2011 with 3 awards. She took home an award for the Top touring Artist at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Following her record with accolades is country winner Garth Brooks with 19, Usher and Adele tied at 18 and Whitney Houston at 16.</p>
