Chess has emerged as the most popular sport throughout this siege. The major reason for this is because the game retains its core when played online. Apart from the simplicity of play, there is another reason why chess has begun to gain followers who previously believed the game was uninteresting, have now changed their perspective with an unlikely match between chess and comedy. And that reason is India’s stand-up comedians, led by Samay Raina. Samay is a stand-up comedian and chess enthusiast. He started broadcasting about chess on his YouTube channel around two months ago and has since encouraged thousands of others all over the world to take up the game.

After Grand Master Viswanathan Anand, Samay Raina has revived interest in chess in India. Nobody expected chess to become so popular there when Samay began playing it at the outset of the lockdown.

Vidit Gujrathi eats his supper in front of a live audience. Teimour Radjabov bursts into a dance routine to the Indian government’s trash disposal promotion song. Baskaran Adhiban always wears his sombrero and claims he’ll be swarmed at the Chennai airport. Anish Giri strikes a bargain in which he agrees to play a drawing-guessing game in return for his YouTube account being raided.

These chess Grandmasters, two of whom are among the world’s top ten chess players and two others who are India’s No. 3 and 4 chess players, are among the sport’s top players who are shedding their serious, studious image and showing their funny, everyday selves – all for a good cause.

You may have also seen Viswanathan Anand, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, chess YouTube icon Agadmator, and a slew of India’s most popular stand-up comedians, including Tanmay Bhat, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Abish Mathew, and Vaibhav Sethia, play chess against each other, urging viewers to chip in with contributions and stay back for unscripted, irreverent banter.

He was well-known before chess because he won Comicstan. As a result, he has relationships with many of India’s best comedians, including Tanmay Bhat, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Abhishek Upmanyu, Anirban Dasgupta, Vaibhav Sethia, and others.

When he first started, these YouTubers would come to his channel and play. Throughout the beginning of his chess streams, Vaibhav, Anirban, Abhishek, and occasionally Tanmay were always present.

What made it even more intriguing was the large number of individuals that were watching this broadcast LIVE. More than 20,000 people! That’s enough to fill two-thirds of the Wankhede cricket stadium! Chess is not a spectator sport, to say the least! The last time such numbers were observed in internet chess viewing was for a really world-class event as the World Championship Match or the Candidates!

He developed numerous chess forms, such as the poison pawn. Because he used to call GM Vidit and India’s famous YouTubers like Bhuvan bam, Ajay Nagar, Flying Beast, and others, these were instant successes. People came because of these YouTubers, but they remained for Samay’s comments.

His commentary style is extremely distinctive; you feel as if you are his closest friend; he speaks very modestly but also uses slang; this is one of the primary reasons people feel instantly attracted to him.
