Earlier last week, we wrote about robots taking over hospitals. Or at least planning to. And now, we come across news about robots taking over our salons.
Not that we’re complaining. But isn’t the salon supposed to be our comfort place? Finger running through our hair, palms massaging our cheeks, aroma-filed air, forehead cooling air-conditioning. Ah.
But who ever spoke about robots doing us any harm? They’re just here to manicure the nails!

An India-based startup announced their plans not too long ago, to manufacture the Beauty Arm – a robotic arm that fits well in the settings of a salon. Not just next to the face packs and the hair dyes, but to actually execute beauty treatments. The robotic arm comes with a touchscreen that helps you select the exact beauty treatment you’d want. These include facials, skin treatments and what no. The arm maps your face using 3D mapping.
The makers of Beauty Arm, claim that the robotic arm comes with a decent number of safety precautions. This will help in decreasing the overall costs of running a beauty salon (and the price of the beauty treatments for customers). The beauty arm comes at an opportune time when concerns regarding going back to salons when the COVID threat looms near. Primarily owing to human to human contact.
Similarly, Switzerland-based Machine construction company Robotec Solutions recently also unveiled a robotic machine on similar lines. In the official video, the robot can be seen shining up a woman’s fingernails. Get the manicure going!
The same company also teased viewers with glimpses of another robotic machine that can cut your hair equally efficiently as a human barber. If not more!
What do you think? Are we ready yet to replace humans in workplaces like salons, with their robotic equivalents?
