Sculptor’s heaven are two rocks on the coast that resemble a mother hugging her child, which gave the place its name of ‘Ningyo-iwa’, roughly translating to ‘doll rock’.
Gyobumisaki, Chiba
Gyobumisaki (Cape Gyobu), located at the northern end of Kujukuri is where you’ll witness an unbroken view of the Pacific Ocean.
If you look from the observatory, you’ll get a panoramic view from Inubozaki up to the Boso Peninsula. Stay a bit longer and you can enjoy one of the most stunning nightscapes in Japan. On clear days, you will be able to see Tokyo Skytree and Mount Fuji!
Shiudeyama, Kagawa
Shiudeyama, or Mt. Shiude, sits at the core of the Shonai Peninsula that faces the sea in three directions. A sundown scene from its summit is as breathtaking as it can ever be. On the 352metre-high summit is an observation deck from where you can get an uninterrupted view of the islands floating in the Inland Sea of Japan, the glistening sea, and Seto Ohashi (the Great Seto Bridge). Dusks here are even more enthralling than sunsets. What’s remarkable about the skies at this place is that they vary according to the season, the time and the temperature. Not a boring sunset here!
