The new Microsoft Surface Pro 8 is being considered the first real tablet redesign in years. The $1.100 device is the greatest 2-in-1 in the Surface lineup, designed for the modern user who loves a sleek tablet at hand. But are you really getting what you pay for?
The features
First things first, the 13inch display is a refreshing upgrade from the 12.3inch display we had seen in Surface Pro 7. The thin bezels only add to the charm and the viewing experience, the bump in refresh rate from 80Hz to 120 make the device smoother.
The Surface Pro 8 can be outfitted with either of the two powerful processors: i5-1135G7 or Core i7-1185G7. However, these are the same chips that were used for MS Surface Pro 7+ for Business, so if you already have that model, Pro 8 won’t be much of an upgrade.

But it’s an upgrade enough from the Surface Pro 7 of 2019. The previous model had a RAM of 4 to 16GB, but Pro 8 offers 8, 17 or 32GB RAM. This takes things up a notch and it seems like Microsoft is really experimenting with how smooth it can make the user experience. Pro 8 also has great options for its storage – 128, 256 OR 512 GB, or ITB removable SSD storage. The USB ports make the situation even better, there being 2 USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4! The USB ports of Surface Pro 7 were Thunderbolt free
A 3.5mm headphone jack is also included. However, headphones aren’t.
Accessories not included, yet again
Even though there is no arguing that the Surface 8 Pro is worth every penny it costs, the 2-in-1 device, like Surface Pro X, hides charges. For most of us, this is a deal-breaker.
Not only does the product come without extras that bump up your experience, it also excludes the basic accessories that make it useful, one of which is the keyboard.

Would an added keyboard be too much to ask for? Another hidden fee is for the gorgeous Slim Pen 2 stylus.
However, if you have previously owned the Surface Pro X and happen to have the “extra” keyboard, you might not need to buy a new one.
For ardent fans of the Surface lineup, this Windows 11 laptop will do good. It might not be the strongest Surface laptop yet( Surface Laptop Studie wins that race), but it truly is the first tablet redesign in years. An extended battery life, strong processor, increased refresh rate and a wonderful display will leave you in love. Make sure you know the hidden fees, though!
