“Making weird faces because it’s better to look ugly on purpose.” – Humanity as a whole.
We are here to talk about a really, really bizzare and comical sports competition held in England annually. As it goes with weird sports and weirder championships, the Gurning Championship of rural England wins the prize!

What is a “gurn”? Pulling a grotesque face! And why would you pull a grotesque face? One reason – Because Why Not?
The Gurning Championship is held at the Ergemon Crab Fair every year. This means you can watch gurners gurn every year!
So what is the Gurning procedure?
Set your intention to make as distorted a face as humanly possible.
Feel your lower lip, take it as far forward and up as you can, try covering your upper lip and then reaching your nose. Yes, you just did a gurn!
Not funny enough? Okay, try this. ‘Frame’ your face through a horse collar to make it more attractive. You just did a winner-worthy “gurnin’ through a braffin” , the official gurn at the championship!
The Gurning Championship invites people who can do the best gurns and end up looking offensive in the process. The ugliest wins! Too many beauty pageants, honestly, gurning contests seem so much more welcoming.
How did the Gurning Championship start?
No one remembers. Even though the Ergemon Crab Fair dates back to the 13th century (more than 750 years ago!), people believe that glorifying weirdness can’t be so old. Nevertheless, the British newspapers call Gurning an “ancient sport”.
World-known Gurners and their Records

The woman with the most wins at the Gurning Championship is Anne Woods! Anne won the Gurning Contest a whooping 27 times, the most anyone has won it in our knowledge!
Her male counterpart is Tommy Mattinson who has won the competition no less than 14 times!
Winners are chosen every year. Remember, the ugly, the better!
