Apple Patents Magic Keyboard With In-built Mac

Apple Inc’s recent patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office hints at an all-new portable computer concept. The patent is for the Magic Keyboard designed with a fully inbuilt Mac that can plug into any display.

It is speculated that the newly patented innovative proposition from Apple will be an alternative for desktop computers and laptops. Users will need to carry the magic keyboard alone to use it without a monitor, tower or mouse while travelling. Similar to the Mac mini, the concept will be essentially a standalone computer that will even contain a trackpad. Users will be able to connect to a monitor even without any cords or cables.

The magic keyboard that Apple will manufacture seems to be included with a thermally conductive base and a processing unit in thermal communication with the base that spreads the heat throughout its body.

Magic Keyboard as a Mac

According to PatentlyApple, the components like batteries, memory, integrated circuits, processors and cellular antennas will all be built within Magic Keyboard, so users just need to bring their own display to the setup. The patent is taken for reducing the size of the bulky computing components into a high-performance portable computing device in the size of an input device.

The patent makes the concept seems like the input region of the magic keyboard can detect touch for trackpad functionality and touch on a secondary display. The area can support a mechanical or projected virtual keyboard. The product may have sub cavities that can contain rechargeable power supplies and have a plurality of vents and apertures to provide airflow. Another example of the patent hints that the magic keyboard will have a cable that can communicatively connect the device to one or more ancillary devices such as a display. The proposed product can even receive electrical power and data from ancillary devices.

The concept is only a patent that doesn’t confirm that Apple will ever make such a product. The patent itself shows many possible methods and hardware configurations rather than a specific kind of portable computer that makes sense.

We couldn’t be expecting that the Magic Keyboard ever make it come to life, but isn’t it still fun to imagine it becoming a reality.
