J.K. Rowling was a broke single mother struggling to pay her rent but she is today one of the world’s most acclaimed authors after launching the Harry Potter franchise. Her creation resulted in a multi-billion dollar business that affected the lives of thousands with spin off books, theme parks, costume inspired stores and even movies. 

Mayer is an information technology entrepreneur who was the CEO and President of Yahoo! She became the CEO of the company in 2012 after being the spokesperson for Google and long-time executive and leader. Her total net worth is over 540 Million Dollars and in her time at Yahoo! she has overseen several key deals.

Brenda Yule became the first woman to complete a quadrathlon. She finished her race in 1983 and opened up the road for hundreds of young women athletes across the world to compete in this sport that involves kayaking, swimming, cycling and running. Before Yule, many doubters would raise questions on women’s endurance and whether they were up to the same levels of efforts that men could exert. 

The acclaimed University of Harvard allowed women to enroll for studies in the 1940s but no woman was ever elected as President. In 2007, Faust, a historian, was the first elected female President of the ancient university. She refused to be called the “Woman President of Harvard” and insisted on being called the “President of Harvard” as she tried to eliminate stereotypes in circles that always remained skeptical about the abilities of young women. She opened the road to opportunities that seemed impossible till only a few years ago.

She is the first and only woman to date to has ever won the Academy Award for Best Director for her movie “The Hurt Locker” in 2009. She was also the first female to win a Saturn Award for Best Director in 1995 for “Strange Days”.
