What Should Your Self Care Routine Be Like?

Self care isn’t selfish. The relationship we have with ourselves sets the tone for every other relationship we have. Love yourself so fiercely that when others see you, they know exactly how it should be done. You might have a stressful job and everything, but me-time can’t be the last thing on the agenda. Here are some tips to get started with a good self-care schedule.

Get enough sleep

Sleep has a huge impact on how you feel emotionally and physically. Not getting enough sleep can cause major health issues. Start by working on your nightly routine. Are you eating or drinking immediately before bed? Regulate your intake of caffeine and sugar before bed. Make sure your bedroom has the right temperature and light. Keep the sun away from waking you up too early in the mornings.

Create an exercise routine

Exercise is definitely good for us, but do we really know how good it is? Daily exercise helps you not only physically but also mentally- it enhances your mood and reduces stress and anxiety, not to mention it helps you shed extra weight. Do not begin with something as restrictive as gyming. Incorporate other exercises, such as walking, tennis, or yoga, which can fit your schedule more easily. The most essential thing is to create a routine that works for you.

Say no to others

To learn how to say no is really hard. We  feel obligated to say yes when someone seeks our time or energy. However, if you’re already overworked, say yes to yourself. Otherwise, it may lead to anxiety, burnout, and irritability. It may take some time, but once you know how to politely say no, you’ll start feeling more confident about yourself, and you’ll have more time to pamper yourself.

Eat healthy

The food that we eat has the potential to keep us healthy or contribute to obesity or diseases such as diabetes, but it can also keep our minds working and alert. Eating the right foods helps prevent short-term memory loss and inflammation, both of these have long-term effects on the brain and the rest of the body as well. The healthiest self-care foods include fatty fish, blueberries,  green leafy veggies, nuts, and brassicas.

Take a self care break

Taking a self-care trip makes a huge difference. Even if you’re not particularly stressed, going out for a weekend every now and then helps you disconnect, relax, and remain rejuvenated. Simply drive to the next town and see the sights, or just go camping nearby. The goal is simply to veer away from your normal schedule and make some time for yourself. This can be a great way of overcoming the possibility of a burnout.
