Jose Maria Rodriguez Madoz, better known as Chema Madoz, is a Spanish artist who focusses on contemporary photography and is quite well-known for his work around the world.
As a professional and artistic soul, Madoz has dedicated his life towards the creation of a unique visual language which can easily be identified as his own style of art. This results in some minimal but extremely catchy pieces where simplicity and poetry comes together in each photograph, leaving the viewers awestruck.

In the early’s 90’s, Madoz started to question the everyday uses of objects through manipulation by accentuating their characteristics in his photographs. He has never been interested in the usage of digital alteration in his artwork, so he patiently waits to find the best moment and the proper objets to start his creative compositions.
While his art is full of content, it is interesting to note that in most of the cases, the title is missing.
Madoz has been quoted by various media outlets to say that he doesn’t like to put a title on his art so that the viewer is free to interpret it in their own way.

Madoz’s photographic subjects are perfectly balanced and interestingly composed to make a visual illusion. He uses a Hasselbald camera for his projects and most of the time prefers using natural light to artificial light.

The black and white effect in his photographs don’t take away the focus from the object with any other additional information other than its own iconic language and meaning. Also, his visual poetic language characterised by symbolism, creates a subtle game of paradox and minimalistic metaphors developed with elegance.

Madoz believes that objects have the same character like words. He often says that when you put objects next to each other, they contaminate one another and change the meaning. That gives him an infinite number of possibilities to explore.
