Cattedrale Vegetale or the idea of a ‘Tree Cathedral’ was first introduced by Italian artist Guiliano Mauri. This cathedral is a unique temple made out of rows of living trees that are bound together by temporary wooden frames, which will eventually decay, leaving behind columns of trees that are going to continue growing, and eventually mesh together to form the walls and ceiling of this all-natural cathedral.

Guiliano Mauri’s first cathedral is located in Valsugana, Italy. After his death in 2009, his son continued this legacy and built many such cathedrals in Italy. Check out some of them below!
