We grew up watching cartoons and reading comics but never thought twice about the disproportionate features of our favorite characters. Who needed characters with perfectly symmetrical faces, consistent eyes and nose and ears, and rough hair? But as our relationship with these characters grew, so did our curiosity. Brazilian artist Hidreley Diao could take it no more and decided to turn these fictional characters into real people. Because what if?

Diao uses AI-assisted technology for what we can only describe as utterly delightful to every viewer. After looking at the portraits, one is compelled to believe they are photographs of real people. But beware, dear spectator, for these people do not really exist. They are merely anthropomorphized forms of our friends from childhood. To create the final product, Dião uses Photoshop and three smartphone apps for editing. These are FaceApp, Gradient and Remini.
When the artist decides to humanize a subject, he scores the internet for pictures that might contain similar features as that of the character. This is quite a difficult task, but being a brilliant AI artist, he is able to excel in it. It takes Diao anything between two to four hours to create a piece, and even though the pictures look like easy portrait shots, a lot of hard work goes into the creation. Let’s have a look at some works by Hidreley Leli Dião so that we can appreciate them in their true potential.
