Pizza, Served With A Side Of Lava: Check Out How This Man Makes Pizza On An Active Volcano

You know that saying for hot weather, which goes like ‘I can cook pizza on the ground!’? Well, this post has something similar. Here, David Garcia cooks not only pizza but lasagne, coffee, and barbeque ribs on a live volcano!

It sounds dangerous, but he is well trained. In fact, this 34-year old has been doing this since 2013. He wears special protective clothing and military-style boots. The temperature ranges up to 1,800 Fahrenheit (982.2ºC) at Guatemala’s Pacaya volcano, where his kitchen resides. Netizens and tourists both love his cooking, and some say they took special trips just to eat his delicious food!

So, how does he cook?

On top of the steaming, hot volcano, his cooking process is pretty similar to how chefs make pizzas at restaurants. Garcia puts the pizza on top of a unique metal tray, resistant to getting burnt from piping flames and heat. He selects his hot caves carefully and then puts his work in. The heating process is similar for all warm meals, but the preparation differs.

Professionally an accountant, Garcia only recently received fame internationally for his hobby. His video got viral on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and caught the attention of many tourists. The best part is how he engages with the people and at times, even lets them feel the joy of cooking!

These days, he has been cooking directly on the lava oozing out.

‘Pacaya Pizza’ usually takes 10-15 minutes to cook completely, with the glorifying cheese stretching as you take a slice. The process also involves some science, as cooking does. Gracia takes note of the wind direction and temperature to cook his perfect pizza on this 23,000 old volcano. Since Pacaya is one of the three active volcanoes in Guatemala, it has already captured the attention of people.

Unique, impressive, and delicious meal at the heart of the volcano. Tourists have not only appreciated the location of dining, but also the taste of the food made by Garcia. This is an activity you must do when you visit Guatemala. After all, you get to eat heavenly pizza on a volcano!
