Places To See: Saas-Fee


Known as The Pearl of the Alps, Saas-Fee is one of the four surviving 14th century Saas community villages. The glacier village is located at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level and is surrounded by 13 four thousand meter peaks for you to revel in a snowy wonderland.

Where should you head to?

Travel to Saas-Grund, which lies in the center of the valley and is an ideal starting point for the high altitude trails. Make a trip to the natural dam of Mattmark in Saas Almagell’s. Visit the Late Baroque circular church and the roaring Fell Brook in Saas Balen. Go skiing on the 150 km of snow assured pistes, with varied difficulty levels. Take the Alpine Metro to the world’s highest revolving restaurant in Mittelallalin. Relax in the comforts of Bielen Leisure Centre.

Take the Gorge Alpine from Saas-Fee to Saas-Grund and travel through a snow covered gorge, past frozen waterfalls and naturally carved stone sculptures. Pick from one of the ski tours, off-piste treks or heliskiing trips on offer. Try snow-tubing and air-boarding in the picturesque Saas-Almagell. Fasten your seat belts and get ready to take some sharp turns on the Feeblitz toboggan and bobsleigh runs. If you fancy the traditional winter sports, choose from ice climbing, skiing, snowboarding, sledging, snow shoe walking, telemarking or winter hiking.

Join in on a fairy-tale hike by the light of flaming torches as you head to a mountain hut to enjoy a Swiss cheese fondue. Take a one hour guided tour of the village, walking in a romantic torch lit atmosphere. Capture some moments on the Photo Post Course as you explore the history, culture and tradition of the region. Go hiking in the majestic landscape of Lötschental. Visit the castle of Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper in Brig. Explore the village of Zermatt at the foothills of Matterhorn, the most clicked mountain in the world. Try your hand at brewing the local glacier beer – Gletscher Bräu in Saas-Fee.
