What is the Hispanic Heritage Month?
The term Hispanic means ‘related to Spain’ or of Spanish origins. The Hispanic month is thus celebrated in the US to recognize and appreciate the contributions and endeavours of the Hispanic Americans. The Hispanic month is celebrated from 15th of September to 15th of October. The theme for the year 2020 is ‘Hispanics: Be Proud of Your Past, Embrace the Future’. This month is celebrated to embrace the Hispanic backgrounds and be proud of them and what they have accomplished. Hispanics constitute to be the second largest ethnic group in the U.S.

History
In the year 1968, President Lyndon Johnson made Hispanic heritage week as an official government celebration to ‘pay special tribute to the Hispanic tradition’. Later, it was expanded by President Ronald Reagan into a whole month, known as The Hispanic Month. In 2019, The number of Hispanic citizens in the U.S. reached 60.6 million with Mexicans being the largest Hispanic group.
