Anyone who is a diligent fan of anime and gaming will at one point have heard about The Touhou Project. It is a series of bullet-shooter games made by a one-man army- Japanese doujin soft developer Zun. Some say that its massive popularity is credited to the cute characters, well-developed storylines, and catchy music, but there’s another reason that makes this game famous enough to have an annual festival of its own.
Zun, the creator, treats the Touhou IP as belonging to the public domain, which means that fans can create all the fanwork and art they desire of the series without having to worry about legal actions (with a few exceptions). And these fans have sure come to love the fantasy world of Genshokyo because of these amazing characters who each have their unique powers!
