In late 2013, when the current generation of consoles became available, it opened up new possibilities for console gaming. The significant bump in technology meant for better, immersive gaming, and to this day both the Xbox One and PS4 surprise us with what they can do (PC gamers, yes we know. Let’s move on). These games, both old and new, are some of the best exclusive titles available on current gen consoles.
1 The Last of Us Remastered
There aren’t many games that has garnered as much praise as The Last of Us has. The gripping story of Joel and Ellie is one to be experienced first-hand. Set in a post-apocalyptic setting, the gameplay combines stealth, survival mechanics like crafting and resources, and third-person shooting to bring you an experience you’d want to revisit. The beautiful yet haunting world-design will ensure you do. With the sequel, The Last of Us 2 arriving soon, now’s the time to get in on the action.
Naughty Dog developed The Last of Us for the PS3 and the Remastered edition for the PS4 includes the additional Left Behind DLC.
2 Marvel’s Spider-Man
We’ve all played at least one version of the Spider-Man game as we grew up, but nothing came close to 2004’s Spider-Man 2. At least, until now. Insomniac Games have created the most engaging, riveting, and fun Spider-Man game yet for the PS4. Large, beautiful open-worlds, fast-paced fight mechanics (inspired by the Arkham series, I might add), and a story that keeps you engaged throughout. But that’s not all you want in a Spider-Man game. What makes or breaks a Spider-Man game is the web-swinging, and OH do they nail it! You could swing across the New York landscape for hours on end and not feel bored. With a brilliant physics engine to hold it together, Spider-Man PS4 lets you become the friendly neighbourhood web-head.
3 God of War
What was once a renowned action series, famous for its brutal visuals and gory fights had become quite dated by the arrival of the current gen consoles. That was until Sony Santa Monica turned God of War into one of the greatest games of all time. The soft-reboot of sorts told a gripping story of a father and son and helped us see the raging God of War in a new light. The brilliant story, filled with lore from the Norse gods created an engaging world where you were never bored. But it isn’t a GoW game without the brutal fights, and that is exactly what we got. The new Leviathan axe introduced a whole new way of combat and learning to use it your own way is a rewarding experience in itself.
4 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Naughty Dog sure knows how to make great video games. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the finale to Nathan Drake’s adventures around the globe. Filled with beautiful scenery and life-like visuals, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the best games you can get for the PS4. With plenty of boggling puzzles, action-packed shootouts, and enormous set-pieces Naughty Dog saved the best of Uncharted for last. Unless you count the spin-off game Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is an equally enthralling game.
