Becca Saladin is a graphic designer who started a thematically different project – namely Royalty Now where she recreates famous historical figures as the people of today. She has gained a huge amount of followers on her Instagram page since. The artist has been sketching and painting since she was a child. Both of Becca’s parents read a lot to her which sparked her interest in history.
The first book about history that she was introduced to was a fictionalized young adult version of the Anne Boleyn story. Then, she became obsessed with Tudor history. She also loved Pompeii, ancient Egyptian mummies, and everything that helped her feel a sense of closeness with the people of the past.
Becca took inspiration for this particular style of art from a portrait of Anne Boleyn and thought about how she would look in the modern world. She said that she has always loved Photoshop and how powerful a tool it is. This led her to try and recreate some of her own and then just kept going.
Becca Saladin spends hours modernizing historical figures through expert digital manipulation. Here are a few samples of her work, get all set for sheer surprise!
