You must have heard the phrase, “rock-solid” or “as stiff as a rock”. Be prepared for your perception about the rock’s stiffness change after reading this article. Don’t worry, this is not some boring science related article about the atoms and molecules of a rock that make it malleable! This however, is an article about an artist who creates an unbelievable magic with these otherwise ‘stiff’ rocks!
Jose Manuel Castro Lopez is a Spanish Sculptor, who carves stones and graphite. Sounds pretty ordinary right? That is exactly why he makes each of his carvings look as if they were made out of clay. His work will definitely leave you in a confusion as to whether it is a piece of mould or a rock. He works with rock of all sizes to create different

Very few artists these days believe in authenticity but Lopez firmly believes that after his work on the rock, the rock should not leave its original texture. In order to give the rocks their design, he only removes the texture where it is absolutely necessary and lets the rest of the rock be as it is. His creations create an illusion that they are naturally moulded structure that have developed in the nature on their own. This is because it is presumed to be humanly impossible to create such a seamless piece of art. All in all, after being made his stones appear as wrinkled fabric and nothing even close to a rock!
Have a look at some of his work and trust me guys you will definitely not be able to tell that these are rocks instead of some moldable clay.
