You will hear this very frequently that Cusco is the gateway to the inca empire, one of the greatest empires in history. Cusco has its own beauty and is a town rich in culture and heritage. It is an active tourist attraction. Winter is the season when you should expect the most tourist inflow or “high season”.
Cusco has extremely pleasant weather and equally pleasant locals. You will find eye catching sceneries, exquisite sites and so many activities to do here that you won’t ever regret a second of it. Llamas and alpacas, that are otherwise hard to spot, are here in abundance. The streets here are narrow but filled with stories and by the way, the coffee shops are amazing!
You can enjoy trekking, caves, beautiful balconies, even the neighborhood places are such great visits such as San Blas and especially Machu Picchu, which is the cherry on top. Also, if you are feeling adventurous, you can try eating the cuy (guinea pig; a special dish in South America).

La Catedral
It is the treasure trove to Cusco art and a mesmerising place. The paintings here will leave you speechless. It is a very important place and holds a lot of historical and religious importance.
Sacsayhuaman
It is a citadel on the outskirts of Cusco and holds immense significance in the history of Peru. It represents the head and jaw of the sacred inca puma. It is an archaeological site and a must visit place.
Coricancha/Koricancha
It is the sun temple and is significant as its a church, a museum and a shrine. It also holds extremely valuable ruins of the empire. This site was the most important inca temple of which only these ruins are left.
San Blas
This neighborhood is known for its architecture and peculiar shops. Again, do try the coffee here!
Cristo Blanco
This statue is the ultimate spot because it has the best view of the whole of Cusco.
Chinchero
This small town comes between Cusco and Urubamba and has the airport travellers to Cusco would need to board from.
Planetariums and museums such as the Inca museum and of course, the chocolate museum.
Machu Picchu
Saving the best for the last, this is the must visit heavenly site that once was of the most important pots in Peru for the incas. Its use is unknown but you CANNOT miss visiting this. It is calm, serene, abundant with historical relevance and so much more.
