Born in Bradford, David Hockney is one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. He is known for photography, painting, printmaking, set designing. He is best known for his vibrant paintings of swimming pools, portraits of friends, and amazing landscapes. He played an important role in the pop art movement of the 1960s.
David Hockney is known for writing several quotes like- “The moment you cheat for the sake of beauty, you know you’re an artist”, “It is a very good advice to believe only what an artist does, rather than what he says about his work”, “We live in an age where the artist is forgotten. He is a researcher. I see myself that way”.
David Hockney has created famous photo collages with polaroids and snapshot prints arranged in a grid formation, pushing the two-dimensionality of photography to the limit, fragmenting the monocular vision of the camera and activating the viewer in the process. Hockney is a versatile artist who creates art using cutting-edge technology such as fax machines, laser photocopiers, computers, and sometimes even iPhones and iPads. He has created masterpieces in almost every medium- full-scale opera set designs, prints, and drawings
