Now that the Tokyo 2020 Olympics have concluded in 2021, let’s talk about the amazing hosts – Japan, who helped the world secure a breath of fresh air in this overwhelming situation. There are many reasons why so many people love this country. A weeb like me already worships this nation for blessing us with anime. But this country is surely so much more than just a mother to the anime verse. There is not a single thing that comes to my mind if I am to tell a negative point about Japan. The people and their culture are just so soothing and calm that you cannot help but fall for this county. One of their most famous trains that are surely commendable is their hospitality. They know how to respect the culture. And this respect not just covers for their own culture but for others as well. The recent act that won the hearts of many is their Kimono Project! Not familiar? Let us elaborate.

What Is The Imagine Oneworld Kimono Project For Tokyo 2020 Olympics?
The Kimono Project is a beautiful initiative that was launched in 2014 by the Imagine One World Organisation for the 2020 Olympics. This basically is about making and dedicating a Kimono for every country that participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The most appreciating part of these Kimonos is that they represent the culture of the country that they are dedicated to. The project started in 2017 and finished in 2021 where the Kimonos were displayed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Each Kimono costs around a whopping amount of 2 million yens! The funding for these Kimonos was done by the crowds through campaigns and other sources. A total number of 213 Kimonos are there under the project that was made under the Japanese designer Yoshimasa Takakura. It’s nothing but impressive to see a move like this!
What Is Special About The Design Of These Kimonos?
Since the whole purpose of these kimonos is to represent a country’s culture, the designs are taken accordingly. For example, the kimono for India is a beautiful fabric with designs like the royal elephants, the Taj Mahal, Indian tricolour, a peacock, a cow, and more. While the Kimono of Canada is a beautiful combination of orange and white that includes visuals like the soothing scenery of Canada. It also includes some maple leaves to represent the country’s connection with autumn. The Kimono of the USA is full of US achievements like the satellite, their cinema, and an Eagle. The South Korean Kimono, on the other hand, consists of beautiful visuals of their traditional buildings and beautiful flower patterns. All-in-all, each Kimono represents the pride of the respective country. If that’s not special, I don’t know what else is.
Where can I see these beautiful Kimonos?
Well, of course, in this age of Information, you can find everything on social media and the internet. The same goes for these kimonos as well. You can check them out online. However, if you are having an urge to see the real work, you will have to book your tickets for Osaka, Japan. They will be displayed at the 2025 Osaka and Kansai expo!
The kimono project of Tokyo 2020 Olympics has been appreciated around the globe and has also been awarded with the Diplomas of Honour from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Ukraine.
