A month prior to the premiere of the show ‘House of The Dragon’, a prequel to the beloved Game of Thrones, HBO Max has come up with an augmented reality game that lets players pet their own dragons. The immersive experience, known as ‘House Of The Dragon: DracARys’, comes in the form of a freely downloadable app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users will be able to be with their dragons right from the hatching period to adulthood, while the pets will be personalized based on the interaction their owner has with them.
The app that offers a promised Khaleesi experience will see dragons growing up to an enormous size; the fire-breathing creatures will be hitting developmental milestones, much like the dragons in HBO’s Game Of Thrones. When a pet dragon reaches adulthood, it will be allowed to roam in the other world and find other players to interact with. The personality will depend on the owner and the dragon’s own idiosyncrasies, so all of these creatures can be expected to be unique.
Users can also expect to learn words from Valyrian, the infamous dragon-tongue, to interact with the dragons and command them. To make things even more interesting, these commands will be through a customized, ‘bespoke’ voice recognition system.
House Of The Dragon, based on George R. R. Martin’s book ‘Fire & Blood’ tells of the events that happened 200 years before Game of Thrones. The story involves the tell-tale of House Targaryen, so a dragon game is fitting.
To develop House Of The Dragon: DracARys, the HBO Max digital innovation and marketing teams collaborated with The Mill’s team of artists, technologists, and strategists. The game is powered by Niantic’s Lightship technology.
