It is as if you’ve entered a two-dimensional secret world you could only watch on screens and see on paper till now.
In South Korea’s Seoul sits a ‘cartoon café’ that has slowly become a favourite among design-lovers. Everything, from the doors and the curtains to the cups and plates looks as if it was drawn on white paper with a black pen.

The café, inspired by the loved Korean web-series W, is one of its kind in the whole world!
This magical realm is located in a brick building in Mapu-gu Seoul. The while door with a tiny cutout home will tempt you to enter, and enter you must!
As soon as you step in, you’ll be greeted by the world of comics. Even cutlery follows the theme, looking like it is only drawn and can’t be picked up from the cartoon-table.
The black and white design has taken the café to a level that we feel like the only three-dimentional objects in the cozy, eight-seat café. In the balcony are 9 more seats.
The café owners say that they designed the café this way because they wanted customers to walk into a magical, nostalgic world.
Photographers and design-enthusiasts love the ambience so much that this café, opened in 2017, has now prohibited photography without permission.
And you might not have to go all the way to Seoul to experience it, either. Because of the huge success rate, the owners are thinking of opening franchise cafes all over the world.
Are you ready to visit café Yeonnam-dong 239-20? Because we are. 🙂
