Upcoming YouTube Music Updates: What To Expect

Google owned YouTube Music is finally stepping up its game, primarily allowing even free users to listen to music in the background. Be ready to spend some bucks if you’re looking for video playback, though. In its most recent revelation, Google has confirmed that it plans to experiment in Canada with its upcoming YouTube Music updates. The updates are set to roll out in the country on November 3rd.

Upcoming YouTube Music Updates: What To Expect

What to expect if you use the app for free?

Free users of the YouTube music platform have been unable to listen to tracks in the background. This shuns the app in situations when a device gets locked, or when it has to be used for other purposes. Your favourite track stops as soon as you open a chat to respond to your friend. Annoying, yes? Not anymore.

This is one of the very few times YT hasn’t asked its users to pay up if they want additional features. Previously, background music was only available to subscribers of the Premium version. But this feature will now be liberalised. However, the new update takes away an integral aspect of enjoying music – the visuals. Unpaid users will no longer be able to view the videos associated with songs in the app. If they wish to watch the videos, they will have to open the basic YouTube app.

But YouTube is compensating by allowing free users to find great mood mixes for workouts, commutes and the like. These users will also be able to access thousands of songs and playlists for free. They will also be able to listen to their uploaded YouTube videos on demand.

What to expect for Premium Subscribers of YouTube Music?

As for Premium users, YouTube Music is only getting better in every regard. They will be able to watch videos in the background as they listen to tracks, and skip songs from playlists if they should so please. The ad-free experience assures paid users to have an uninterrupted state of flow.

Google hasn’t confirmed how widely these features will be available yet. The updates rolling out in Canada sure show promise, though. What are your thoughts? Share with us in comments.
