The questionable things that go viral on the internet are… well… questionable. While some of these can be downright brilliant, others are just weird ideas. Chia pets by influencer Ali Spagnola can respectfully fit into the former. This social media influencer and content creator can turn anything into a chia pet. We mean anything. If you don’t believe us, think ‘chia toilet pet’.

For the unacquainted, chia pets become popular in the 1990s and 2000s with commercials asking us to buy terracotta pots that looked like animals, and then grow chia on them. The chia sprouts grew in a week, resembling the cute animal’s fur and giving a much-needed cheer to our space. But what if you have to ‘go’ in one?
Ali Spagnola spends her time making chia pets out of, like we said, anything. The social media star’s video of her chia toilet went viral and gained hundreds of thousands of views. Clearly, the world wondered how she was using and cleaning it. While the creator said her chia toilet felt mushy, moist and soft, the details are still a bit of a gray area. And we’d rather it stayed that way.
That’s not all: the Influencer once turned her old car into a giant chia pet. Now, we know car manufacturers are trying to go green, but how green is too green? Spagnola used as much as 60 pounds of healthy chia seeds to cover the external surface of her vehicle with the help of astroturf. Whether she could, and was allowed to drive this car is a different story.
But these ‘showpieces’ aren’t everything. The Influencer has also turned pieces of clothing into wearable chia pets, like the chia tuxedo pet she wore to a 5-star restaurant.
There are no tips and tricks you would need to grow chia pets. All you need are moistened chia seeds and a surface that you could cover with them. However, it’s safe to say that to transform anything into a chia pet, you need one extra ingredient.
